The eBook market is a very competitive one and many eBook Reading devices that were around in the early 2000s have now ceased to exist. Many of these belong to the dedicated eBook device category, like some of those listed on this page. As an eBook enthusiast myself, I feel that it is not very practical to own so many electronic devices ( one for communication, one for computing, one for reading ebook etc. ) The trend is towards integration of the different functions into a single device, and hence, the devices that survive for eBooks are mainly in the PDA category now.
However, I do feel that for the price of convenience and weight, one would have to make do with the tiny screen of the PDA instead of the usual 'paperback' size screen of a dedicated eBook reading device. (Perhaps when the Baby Boomers generation grows older and have poorer eyesight, the dedicated eBook Devices might become popular again!). PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) that double-up as eBook Readers are popular. Most PDAs running the Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 to 2003 come with the Microsoft eBook Reader (but not all). Those that run on Palm OS may have basic Palm Reader installed. Many of these devices can also read eBooks in the MobiPocket Reader format.
